The ABC’s of Green
One lucky school will win a Green School Makeover and four others will
receive $2,500 toward sustainable upgrades courtesy of Pureology and Global
Green USA. The competition kicked off last month and will run through
September, when one applicant will be chosen from the online entries. “Global
Green USA has lowered energy bills for cash-strapped school districts, improved
indoor air quality in classrooms and increased student test scores by greening
over $15 billion in school facilities over the last 10 years,” says Matt Petersen,
president and CEO of Global Green USA. Anyone can nominate a K- 12 school
online by visiting pureology.com.
Pureology, a longtime leader in sustainable hair products, is supporting the school
initiative in several ways. This spring, salons will collect bottle caps for Pureology’s
“Green Schools, One Cap at a Time” program. For every Pureology cap a client
returns to the salon, Pureology donates $1 to the Green School Makeover Competition.
Salons can choose to increase their contribution by participating in a promotion that
gives clients 10 percent off their next retail purchase for every two caps returned. The
salon that returns the most caps will win a one-day, in-salon PureKnowledge class with
Ruth Roche, Pureology Colour Ambassador, plus a selection of ColourStylist samples
and petites. Of course, Pureology recycles all returned caps.
In May and June, Pureology will promote “Global Green USA Fundraising” by
providing salons with a kit teaching them how to host a fundraising event. The company
hopes to encourage salons to host fundraisers to support the Green School Makeover
Competition while creating buzz and boosting revenue for their salon, according to Shae
Kalyani, vice president of marketing for Pureology. greenschools.pureology.com
Green schools see improvements in student health, attendance and performance.
Pureology and Global Green USA will transform another K- 12 school this year.
