Over The Top
Nasir Mazhar knows a thing or
two about how to top off a beautiful
coif. A former hairdresser, Mazhar
has morphed into one of London’s
hottest designers, creating elaborate
headpieces for the likes of Lady
Gaga and Madonna. For Spring 2011,
the milliner added a dash of drama
to the catwalks
with his purple
raffia fauxhawk
creations for
Louise Gray, and
porcelain and
silk headband
for Meadham
Kirchhoff. —K.D.
Makeover Manual
Ten years ago François Nars’ book
Makeup Your Mind became every beauty
professional’s go-to manual for cosmetic
application. Through
before and after
photographs of models,
Nars invited artists
into the transformative
world of makeup.
Today, Nars takes the
concept one step further
with his new volume,
Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself
(Rizzoli, 2011)—only this time, his self-shot
photography features women of all ages,
races and skin tones. The do-it-yourself
guide combines the cosmetic designer’s
step-by-step sketches on transparent
overlays, visual and textual narrative of
his creative process and how readers can
recreate his looks. —J.B.

Natural Wonder
Inspired by the endless beauty of nature, the
leaf-shaped Alessa Designs Natur charm
symbolizes strength and purity. The delicate
charm is handmade from 18-karat gold and set
with diamonds on the stem, and can be worn on a long
leather strap (included) or, as pictured here, dangling from
one of the brand’s beautiful necklaces made of natural spinel
stones. Adding to the beauty of the charm, 10 percent of the
proceeds from each sale is donated to Whole Kids Adventure, an
organization that fights obesity in children. alessadesigns.com —L.M.
Chalk it Up
Mine Design’s Chalkboard Candles are the
perfect way to ignite stylists’ creativity. The
candles’ reusable ceramic pot, which is
available in black and green, can be written on
and erased again and again. What’s more, the
100 percent clean-burning soy wax candles
come in six fragrances and feature 35-40 hours
of burn time. minedesignonline.com —N.A.
Haute Coiffures
For years, Serge
Normant has tended to
the tresses of supermodels
and A-listers like Gisele Bündchen
and Julia Roberts. Now the celebrity
hair guru is bringing beauty to the
masses with a new eponymous
haircare collection. Inspired by his
book, Metamorphosis,
in which he transformed
some of the world’s
great beauties through
spectacular hair styling, the
eight-product assortment
achieves results that range
from basic to provocative.

EDITOR’S
PICK!
Jennifer Aniston has put her Rachel ‘do and signature long beachy locks behind her with a modern angular bob shape created by her longtime stylist, Chris McMillan, owner of his namesake salon in Beverly Hills, CA. Inspired by Vidal Sassoon cuts and Julie Christie’s hair in the 1975 flick Shampoo, McMillan cut the hair shorter in the back and kept it longer to create the simple, chic shape. Change is definitely good. —K.D. PRIMe Cut
The RuMe Cuff was originally designed
as a reusable cuff for a cup, but the
zippered pocket makes it also function
as a secure armband wallet, perfect
for an active and on-the-go lifestyle.
The machine-washable cuff is available
in six colors, including fuchsia, grass,
indigo, black, tangerine and lemon.
