1160 Hair
Wendy Kahn’s dream of creating a “magical place like no other,” became a reality when 1160 Hair—
her 2,100-square-foot, fairytale-themed salon located in Bay Harbor Island, FL—opened in 2009.
At this full-service salon and spa, clients are offered a wide range of services from Keratin anti-frizz
treatments to Minx manicures and their newly available organic facials and full-body massages, all in
a comfortable yet dreamlike environment, featuring doors covered in grass, scratch and sniff cherry
and banana wallpaper and a ceiling packed with hanging fruit. Meanwhile, clients enjoy a manicure in
an Asian tea parlor-inspired room and in the glass-tiled pedicure room, the unique Hawaiian organic
coffee chocolate pedicure is offered with champagne, gourmet coffees and chocolate truffles. On the
styling floor, which resembles Goldilocks’ house in the woods, an enormous portrait of Eve greets
clients while world-renowned professionals who specialize in the latest cutting, coloring and chemical
techniques take the reigns. Color clients are seated on Louis Vuitton-covered chairs at the color bar to
sip on champagne before entering the relaxing wash station equipped with red massaging shampoo
chairs lined up on a patch of grass next to a crackling fireplace on the side. —C.N.

Model figures
Stylists struggling in this economy may find that the best years of their careers are yet to come.
The new Six Figure Hairdresser app for the Apple iPad and iPhone is specifically designed
to help hair professionals bump their earnings to the six-figure level. App users gain everyday
access to a list of 10 unique modules that cover topics on goal setting, building clientele and
how to effectively use technology and social media. Each module features an in-depth coaching
session with Harry Wood IV, creator of the Six Figure Hairdresser program and a leading stylist
at Van Michael Salons in Atlanta. “With the right coaching and an energized attitude, any
stylist can build a career that brings in revenue of over $100,000,” says Wood, who came up
with the idea when he noticed a wide earning gap between stylists with
similar experience levels. According to Wood, Six Figure Hairdressers
know how to manage and build their businesses to ensure that they
“work smarter, not harder” while delivering a consistent quality of services.
The program also has a growing Facebook
and Twitter following. For more information, visit

“I wanted to create an
outlet where I could reach
more clientele without having
them come into a salon,” says
Fris. “By creating this online
service, I can be a personal
‘eye’ to the client’s hairstyling
needs, whether they are
looking for something new or
just need a second opinion.
I advise clients to bring my
recommendations to their
hairdresser, wherever they
live, to get their most perfect
hairstyle.”
